Session Information

What can you expect from therapy sessions?

Before therapy sessions, a full assessment is vital to ensure you are in the right place and that I have all the required information to set a plan of action. After our initial meeting, I will ensure that you clearly understand my role and have realistic expectations of my service. I will clearly set the objectives of the coaching and counselling. This might involve determining whether the therapy is to be brief intervention, deeper intervention or flexible treatment. Mindfulness and cognitive therapy sessions can be for individuals, couples, families or groups.

The Work

- Together we will break down each problem. To help this process I may ask you to keep a diary to help you to identify your own pattern of thoughts, emotions and actions.

- Throughout the sessions, we will look at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours - we will then work out how to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

- After you have identified what YOU want to change, it's time for you to do your homework. You can practise these changes in your everyday life and report back during the next sessions.

- You decide the pace of the treatment and what you're comfortable with.

- The strength of mindful and cognitive therapy is that you can continue to practise and develop your self-help skills even after our sessions have finished.

The Sessions

- Sessions with me last 60 minutes and I recommend that we meet between 6 and 20 times over weekly or fortnightly treatments.

- I will ask questions about your past life and background. Although therapy sessions concentrate on the here and now, at times I may need to talk to you about the past to understand current situations affecting you.

- YOU decide what you want to address in the short, medium and long term.

- We will then start by agreeing on what to focus on during the sessions.
